Aims and Scope:
The FLOSS’2008 workshop aims at discussing the multiple issues coming around the diffusion of F/LOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software). The first workshop (Nice Sophia Antipolis 2007) addressed three main topics:
- a) the FLOSS production and the organization of Open source communities;
- b) FLOSS public and private uses;
- c) the impacts of FLOSS on software industry organization.
We still welcome submissions falling into these three fields.
Beside, in this second workshop, we also encourage submissions related to two related areas:
- a) cooperation within other type of online communities (as file-sharing, file storage & back-up communities, other type of knowledge-producing communities, etc.) ;
- b) generalization of the Open model to other domains (open models, degrees of openness, hybrid models).
List of Topics:
Since FLOSS embraces many dimensions, we welcome submissions from various fields (economics & management, sociology, law, IT & computer science). Both empirical (monographs & case studies, econometric or experimental methods) and theoretical approaches are eligible. The following (non exhaustive) topics will be considered:
- E-government & Public adoption of FLOSS – Private uses of FLOSS – FLOSS & Elearning
- FLOSS in Business practices/contexts (IS, ERP, CRM)
- Individual & Collective appropriation of FLOSS (monographs & case studies, econometric studies)
- Social & topological issues on developer’s networks
- Management & Organizational features of developers’ communities
- FLOSS & Related Software distribution strategy (piracy, free software)
- Hybridisation, Open Models, parents and standards
- Degrees of openness (transparency, standard compliance, interoperability, licensing)
- Communication & cooperation in online/distant systems (knowledge production, file sharing, backup sharing)
