Manchester University is one of the pioneering centres for the study of innovation management and science, technology and innovation policy. The Manchester Institute of Innovation Research builds on the tradition established over forty years ago and particularly on the strengths of *PREST *and *CRIC* (ESRC Centre for Research on Innovation and Competition). These centres were integrated to work with other centres of expertise in Manchester Business School and elsewhere in the University of Manchester more widely on a wide range of innovation management and policy issues. Research interests are broad: from knowledge processes and business transformation to the evolution and performance of the creative and services industries, from nanotechnology to intangibles, and including sustainability and climate change as well as design and economic performance. MIoIR has around 50 staff engaged in academic and consultancy oriented research and educates and informs a large number of postgraduate students and doctoral researchers alongside executive MBA and DBA students and managers. MIoIR is a leading global group combining consultancy and policy research at company, industry, regional, national and international levels. Fundamental research underpins its knowledge of the dynamics of science, technology and innovation in modern, knowledge-based economies. The Institute focus on innovation is central to the strategic interest of Manchester Business School and the University of Manchester.
