Queen Mary Department of Geography
The Department of Geography was graded 5A in the 2001 UK Research Assessment Exercise. NB '5' means that the department undertakes research of international excellence; 'A' -in the case of this department - means that 100%% of researchers were submitted to the exercise (such a submission rate is rare).
The Economic and social justice research group in the Department was highlighted in the RAE feedback report. This group works on power relations in the social construction of economies, uneven development at a variety of scales from the local to the global.
Current projects include: evaluation of competition and cohesion in EU regional policy; restructuring production chains and regional development in the EU; theory and practice of post-socialist transformations; financial evaluations and uneven development; knowledge and household survival strategies in post-socialist societies; re-urbanization of European cities.
