SPRU - Science and Technology Policy Research
SPRU performs research on science, technology and innovation providing detailed empirical findings and new theories of behaviour concerning innovation and the interaction between innovation and knowledge generation and distribution activities. SPRU is a relatively large research centre with diverse capabilities including strengths in the scientometrics, bibliometrics, industrial economics, business organisation, regional patterns of innovation, and innovation networks research areas. While SPRU has contributed to the development of the theory of technological change, particularly within the business enterprise, it is best known for its empirical work in identifying patterns of change at the firm and sectoral levels and for applied studies of national and sectoral systems of innovation. SPRU has made major contributions to the evidence base for policy including work on the internationalisation of R&D activities, the processes of localisation that shape and channel internationalisation, and international comparisons of technology policy.
