DIME – AEGIS – LIEE / NTUA ATHENS 2010 CONFERENCE
New deadline for abstract submission : March 10, 2010
Organized: by the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics at the National Technical University of Athens
Coordinator: Yannis Caloghirou, Asc.Professor NTUA
Conference E-mail: dimeliee@chemeng.ntua.gr
Conference Web site: dime-liee.ntua.gr
Background:
Europe’s transformation towards a knowledge economy is the most effective response not only to the long-term challenges ahead but also to the challenges emerging from the ongoing crisis. In particular, Knowledge- Intensive Entrepreneurship (KIE) can be considered as an important transformative mechanism towards a knowledge-based economy in Europe. In this respect, Knowledge-Intensive Entrepreneurship can link efficiently and effectively the processes of knowledge generation/diffusion and innovation, economic growth, job creation and well-being.
Objectives:
The Conference adopts a comparative perspective in an attempt to shed light to various aspects of knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship in relation to innovation in different industrial contexts and socioeconomic configurations across and outside Europe (i.e. the USA, Russia, India, China). In this respect different characteristics of the emerging knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship at the individual and firm level and their interrelationships with different industrial, national, socioeconomic and other contexts will be explored. Moreover, various aspects of knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship such as the sectoral dimension, the role of demand, network participation as well as social and cultural dimensions will be examined. Special emphasis will be placed in identifying differences and similarities between the European and the US context as well as other emerging economies. In addition, a mapping of different initiatives studying and monitoring entrepreneurship of different kinds (such as the Global Entrepreneurship Monitoring and other initiatives) will be presented. Finally, the policy dimension will be particularly stressed. Specific attention will be paid to the policy element in the process of entrepreneurship generation and growth, taking into consideration the social consequences.
Papers on the following, non-exclusive, topics are invited:
- The emergence of knowledge intensive entrepreneurship in the context of globalized competition.
- Knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship and national innovation systems.
- Knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship and varieties of capitalism in Europe.
- The role of institutions in developing knowledge intensive entrepreneurship in developed and emerging economies.
