Workshop on Evolutionary Economics and Evolutionary Economic Geography
Wuhan
, China
March 22-23, 2008

Since the 1980s, the literatures on evolutionary economics have increased dramatically, and penetrated mostly all fields of Economics, offering a totally new theoretical perspective for researches on technological/industrial, institutional evolution, regional development, and even resources environmental. Without doubt, the recently developed paradigm of evolution economics is built on the basis of experiences that Western countries have undergone, it can not be applied directly to in the Eastern World which has distinct culture and had went through significant social and economic transforms. China as a good representative of the oriental world has 5000 years of civilization, especially the recent 100-year historical changes, making it possible for Evolution Economics to discover "the oriental veil".

After being introduced by some scholars such as Jia Genliang at the Renming Universtiy, Evolutionary Economics has drawn increasingly attention in China. But the past experiences of the application of Western doctrines into China show that without profoundly considering the history and situation of a country can not an introduced theory be well embedded, On the other hand, without an international perspective and dialogue, would indigenous academic research suffer from a fatal crisis. Currently, an interlinked international research network has been build up among the Western scholars of Evolutionary Economics. Consequently, it is VERY urgent to know the research process of Evolutionary Economics in the international community, intensify search on the evolution of Eastern civilization, in particular that of Chinese recent 100 year economic change, in order to exhibit Chinese scholars' Collective intelligence and simultaneously construct an international dialog oriented Chinese Research Network of Evolutionary Economics. These are the primary motives of this Workshop.
