Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands
5-7 September 2010

In recent years, research in industrial dynamics has started to focus on geography, while at the same time economic geographers have shown increased interest in industrial dynamics. This workshop aims at discussing this exciting interface between industrial dynamics and economic geography and at cross-fertilising ideas and methodologies between the two areas.

Keynote lectures will be given by Steven Klepper (Carnegie Mellon University), Rosina Moreno (University of Barcelona), David Rigby (UCLA), John Sutherland Earle (Central European University Budapest) and John Sutton (London School of Economics, to be confirmed).

You are kindly invited to send extended abstracts (1500 words) or full papers that combine industrial dynamics and economic geography. With industrial dynamics we mean entry, exit, firm growth, M&A, spin-off, networks, etcetera and with economic geography we mean matters concerning location, re-location, clusters, globalisation, and urban and regional development.

Some examples of topics combining industrial dynamics and economic geography are:
- location behaviour of spinoffs
- industry lifecycles and the emergence of clusters
- spatial dimensions of mergers and acquistions
- entry and exit in spatial sub-markets
- the growth of multi-locational firms
- the spatial evolution of networks and/or of industrial sectors
- path dependence and regional development
- geography and organisational ecology

Contributions can have a theoretical, methodological or empirical approach.

There is no fee. Lunches (6-7 September) and dinners (5-6 September) are provided. Participants are expected to book and pay their own travel and hotel. PhD students and postdocs can ask for reimbursment (please indicate in your email when sending the abstract or paper).

Please send your extended abstract or full papers to m.capasso@geo.uu.nl before April 1, 2010.
Extended abstract should contain motivation, research questions, methodology, and (expected)
results. You will be notified before May 1, 2010 about the acceptance of your abstract or paper.
Final papers should be sent before August 15, 2010.

On behalf of the organising committee,
